A Memorable Revisit to the Chimanimanis

Created by hagblack 11 years ago
Having been instilled with a love of adventure and exploration by Alex when he lead the Chironi expeditions to the Chimanimanis it was natural that I would desire to return there...and return we did 8 yrs later. This time with a 7 month old child (Douglas) and a wonderful long suffering wife Di , our haul up to the hut was some what slower than normal!. We arranged to meet Alex and Dawn and their three ankle biters there...one of the logistics being that we would rely on catching a few trout to supplement our meger rations. Not being much of a fisherman I was relying on Alex`s expertizes...after a half hours fly fishing with the regulatory Walkers Killer flies and no luck I said to Alex..come on you must have a plan? His reply was ..well lets be intelligent and examine the ecology of this pond...we were not far fron Digbys pool. A closer examination revealed tiny little frogs ...so being fortunate enough to catch a few we carefully doctored our Walkers Killers ...4 casts returned 4 trout!! All pan size and a superb breakfast !! Besides my own dad, Alex was the single most influential person / teacher in my life who taught me to think..and to think outside the "box". Ones ability to really utilize your cognitive function allows you to be ahead of the crowd...Thank you Alex for this gift...a gift that you have shared with so many of your pupils and so many of your friends. It was an enormous pleasure and privelege knowing you and your beloved Dawn...you will live on forever in many many little moments...and often when we are required to think out the box we will remember you. We salute you. Our love to Dawn, Lynette, Alexander and Paul. love Haggis and Di
